Throughout our lives, we are surrounded by good design. Whether we realise it or not, design impacts everything that happens to you every day; from the chair we're sitting on, to the book we last read and maybe even the clothes we wear...

Good design is Innovative

When it comes to design, there are really no rules. The best designs are those that are able to push the boundaries and try something new. That's not to say that all innovation is good, of course. But the best designers are always looking for ways to improve upon the status quo.

Design to make an object useful & understandable

It's not simply about making things seem beautiful. It's all about designing objects that are simple to use and comprehend for the end user. Some of our favourite bestsellers, including the Hudson Notebook Cover and the Mark Tech Portfolio, highlight our love for design that is functional yet timeless.

    Aesthetics in design

ryoko Good design is often said to be aesthetic, but what does that really mean? In general, when we talk about aesthetics, we're referring to the appearance of something. But when it comes to design, there's more to it than just how something looks. Aesthetics also play a role in how something feels and functions. Perfect design is not only pleasing to the eye, but it's also comfortable to use and easy to understand. The Bauhaus style of design for example, is one of our favourite, and highlighted well through the famous Junghans watch designed by Max Bill as well as the beautiful collection at Nomos Glashuette.

      Design that is long-lasting

In the realm of design, the old adage is often apt: "you get what you pay for.". It may be tempting to purchase inexpensive items that appear to be poorly made, but these items will need to be replaced much sooner than items that are made from better quality raw materials and good craftsmanship. In contrast, good design is built to last. Investing in well-made furniture, for example, can save you money in the long run by eliminating the need for frequent replacements.

          As little design as possible

Good design is often about simplicity. The best designs are those that are uncluttered and easy to understand. They don't try to do too much, but instead focus on doing one thing well. This can be seen in everything from architecture to product design. The simplest designs are often the most elegant and the most effective. When it comes to design, less is definitely more.
